3D Printer Controller - RAMPS 1.4
RAMPS 1.4 interfaces with an Arduino compatible Mega 2560 board and and has an extra slot for a 5th stepper motor driver. If you intend on upgrading your machine with an extra extruder in the future you should opt for the RAMPS 1.4 3D printer controller.
Stepper Motor Drivers - A4988
The A4988 Stepper Motor Drivers are a complete microstepping motor driver solution with built-in translators for easy operation. The stepper motor drivers are designed to drive bipolar stepper motors in full-, half-, quarter-, eighth-, and sixteenth-step modes, with an output drive capacity of up to 35 V and ±2 A. The A4988 stepper motor drivers include a fixed off-time current regulator which can operate in slow or mixed decay modes.
It is possible to upgrade your full kit with a LCD Display Controller for standalone printing (printing without a pc connected). We highly recommend operating the printer with an LCD Display Controller as your pc can have a negatively influence on the print job. The Display Controller has a SD card reader & fan control. The case for the LCD display can be printed from Thingiverse.
You can upgrade your Prusa Mendel i2 - Full DIY Kit with a fan and mount that is attached directly to the extruder. This fan is highly recommended, especially for printing PLA, as it will cool the extruded filament. The fan will improve bridging and overhang performance. Adding a fan also means that you don't need to insert a minimum layer time in your slicing profile.
