Increased printing speed & build volume
The Prusa i3 Achatz Edition has a higher build volume than its predecessor, the Prusa Mendel i2 3D printer. The build volume of the Prusa i3 Achatz Edition equals 200x200x170 mm and is perfectly suitable for mid-sized objects. The lightweight Trespa (HPL) frame solution allows smoother operation and increased printing speeds.

The Prusa i3 Achatz Edition is a Reprap open-source 3D printer that really brings to life the true beauty and value of the Reprap movement. Enhanced Frame Rigidity -
High Quality Trespa (HPL)
The Frame that holds together the Prusa i3 Achatz Edition is made of a specially selected high quality type Trespa high-pressure laminate (HPL). The Frame consists of the Main Frame plate and a Carriage plate for mounting the heated bed. The filament spool holder is functionally integrated into the Frame design itself and can be equipped with 1 and 2KG spools of filament.

0.25 mm ABS Prusa i3 Printed Parts
The Printed Parts that form the heart of the Prusa i3 Achatz Edition 3D Printer comprise all the latest advancements of the Prusa i3. All Parts are printed in ABS which make them very durable, resistant and suitable for heavy duty usage. The Printed Parts have a layer height of 0.25 mm and were printed on low speeds to guarantee the highest possible quality. Printed Parts are availabe in the following color options: Yellow, Black, White, Orange & Pink.

HotEnd - E3D v6 All Metal HotEnd vs. J-Head
E3D's brand new E3D V6 All Metal HotEnd sets the standard within the Reprap 3D printing industry. E3D greatly improved the printing quality and precision of its latest HotEnd. E3D's v6 All Metal HotEnd can be heated up to over 400°C and allows printing any of the exciting new filaments. The E3D v6 is very easy in maintenance as clogged nozzles can easily be replaced within seconds. For more information on the E3D v6 please click here
The J-Head HotEnd is mainly suitable for printing PLA and ABS. The maximum operating temperature is 247°C as PEEK will soften at 248°C. Due to many variables, affecting the accuracy of the temperature readings and settings, caution is recommended when extruding at temperatures approaching this limit. Clogging of the J-Head HotEnd often requires partial extruder dissasembly.
Please note that the choice of HotEnd defines which filament diameter you can print. Choosing a 3 mm HotEnd allows only printing of 3 mm filament.
3D Printer Controller - Sanguinololu 1.3a vs. RAMPS 1.4
Both the Sanguinololu 1.3a and the RAMPS 1.4 are great all-in-one electronics solutions for operating a Reprap 3D Printer. The Sanguinolu 1.3a board can drive 4 Stepper Motors: 3 for the X, Y, Z Axis + 1 for the Extruder. We offer a low-cost DIY Sanguinololu 1.3a kit with all through-hole components (the FTDI chip is already pre-soldered) for easy DIY soldering.
RAMPS 1.4 interfaces with an Arduino compatible Mega 2560 board and and has an extra slot for a 5th stepper motor driver. If you intend on upgrading your machine with an extra extruder in the future you should opt for the RAMPS 1.4 3D printer controller.
Stepper Motor Drivers - A4988 vs. Ice-blue
The A4988 Stepper Motor Drivers are a complete microstepping motor driver solution with built-in translators for easy operation. The stepper motor drivers are designed to drive bipolar stepper motors in full-, half-, quarter-, eighth-, and sixteenth-step modes, with an output drive capacity of up to 35 V and ±2 A. The A4988 stepper motor drivers include a fixed off-time current regulator which can operate in slow or mixed decay modes.
The Ice-Blue Stepper Motor Drivers is using the A4982 IC rather than the A4988. The advantage is the chip comes in a bigger package, so it regulates better heat transfer and dissipation.
It is possible to upgrade your full kit with a LCD Display Controller for standalone printing (printing without a pc connected). We highly recommend operating the printer with an LCD Display Controller as your pc can have a negatively influence on the print job. The Display Controller has a SD card reader & fan control. The case for the LCD display can be printed from Thingiverse. Please make sure you select the correct Display based on your 3D printer controller selection.
You can upgrade your Prusa i3 Achatz Edition - Full DIY Kit with a fan and mount that is attached directly to the extruder. This fan is highly recommended, especially for printing PLA, as it will cool the extruded filament. The fan will improve bridging and overhang performance. Adding a fan also means that you don't need to insert a minimum layer time in your slicing profile.
